Several models of BQT Solutions Smart Readers can output encrypted (AES 128) RS485 communication. I currently have 125KHz proximity readers and I want to upgrade to secure smart card readers, but I have a large card population that can’t be changed overnight. Can you help?
BQT Solutions can supply multi-technology migration smart card readers for the upgrade project. Simply change over the readers to BQT Solutions MIFARE® Classic, MIFARE Plus® or MIFARE® DESFire® secure smart readers and during the card transition (however long it takes) the BQT Smart Readers will read either card. When the transition is complete after the last prox card is retired, turn off the 125Khz prox reading functionality and your system’s security upgrade is complete.
I’d like some information on HID iClass readers but all I can find is company sponsored articles?
HID iClass is a proprietary system which BQT Solutions do not recommend or sell, you could try www.proxclone.com for some information from a different source.

Would you like to gain access to an area from a greater distance from the reader such as in carparks and garages?
BQT Solutions’ mi-Key long range access device utilizes a keyfob rather than a card for access. The standard keyfob includes 2 buttons which can be pressed to gain access to two points such as entry and exit boom gates. The keyfob is also available with integrated smartcard technology, allowing it to be used as a credential for the access system of the entire site in the same way one would utilize a card.
I run a branch network of ATM kiosks that have been getting vandalised and damaged from repeated attacks, I’d like to minimise this and only grant access to the kiosks to our genuine card holders, can you help?
BQT Solutions can assist by providing an EMV Smart Reader which can read the public information on any paypass style of bank issued card, providing access to only bona fide card holders.
Do you need an access control system that can allow access after hours without a card?
For applications such as this, you can use BQT Solutions’ 7 Series Pinpad smart reader configured to output data based on a PIN entry only. The PIN can be emailed or sent via SMS to an after-hours user such as a hotel guest who can then obtain an access card during business hours.
Is your access control requirement such that a full backend system is not practical?
This could include scenarios such as vehicle-based access requirements or multisite applications where multiple access systems would be cost prohibitive.
Why would I choose an electric lock over a mechanical lock?
Electric locks offer the user more flexibility and convenience than that of mechanical locks. Various methods can be used to control an electric lock which can eliminate the need for carrying keys. Remote unlocking of a door, logging door users and times of entrance / exit are all possible. Additionally, the Magna range of locks are strong meaning security will not be compromised in fact in most cases it will be increased.
What is Power to Lock / Power to Open?
When a lock is referred to as ‘Power to Lock’ it simply means applying power to it will cause it to lock. If it is referred to as ‘Power to Open’ then it will unlock when power is applied. There are several names to describe a locks configuration;
Power to Lock = PTL = Fail Safe = Fail Unlocked.
Power to Open = PTO = Fail Secure = Fail Locked.
Additionally, some locks like the YC20 don’t change state when power is removed, and they are referred to as Fail Maintained.
What is our Door Lock Range?
Low voltage electro-mechanical locks deigned to secure pedestrian doors in commercial and residential applications. There are two motor driven options in the range, the YD30 and the YD30M with the remaining locks being solenoid operated.
Why use our Door Lock?
Remove the need to carry keys, allow or prevent access remotely or log door traffic. Secure glass doors effectively while maintaining a ‘clean’ look.
How do they work?
A lock is typically mounted inside or onto the door frame and a strike mounted in or on the door edge. Closing the door will activate the lock and it will automatically push the lock pin out to engage with the strike and secure the door. Unlocking is achieved by sending the lock a signal from an entry or exit device (RFID, keypad, pushbutton, etc) which can be connected directly to the lock or via an access control system.
Where can these locks be installed?
Vertical or horizontal installation on single or double acting doors. They need to be kept away from wet environments and for this reason mounting in the floor and locking into a strike in the bottom of the door is not recommended.
What makes BQT Door Locks better than other products on the market?
The quality, reliability and feature set make the locks stand out from the competitors. ABS plastic components and stainless steel parts and fasteners are used throughout the locks and they are finished to the highest standards. Door and bolt position monitors, integrated access control, mechanical deadbolting and low current consumption are all standard features of a lock in this range.
Are they strong enough to be the only lock on a door?
Yes, all the locks in the door lock range can withstand a force of at least 10,000N and use stainless steel pins firing into stainless steel strikes to achieve locking.
What are the power requirements for the locks?
All locks operate on 12 – 24VDC and typically use between 1 – 2A in operation and only milliamps in standby mode.
Which Door Lock should I choose?
YD25 – Perfect for narrow doors and door frames.
YD25K – The convenience of electric locking with the option of manual control.
YD25L – Swing through doors with minor alignment problems.
YD30 – For a swing through (180°) door with significant alignment problems and / or a door that has excessive pre-load on it but will still unlock when requested.
YD30M – For a single acting (90°) door with significant alignment problems and / or a door that has excessive pre-load on it but will still unlock when requested.
YD38 – When extra security is needed, and wider doors and door frames are utilized.
YD38L – Large swing through doors with minor alignment problems.
